2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water on tap. AquaClara Reach works with global partners to design and build non-electric, gravity powered, municipal-scale water treatment plants that are sustainable in under-served communities.
Conventional water treatment plants are complex, costly, and have an expected lifetime of less than 2 years in underdeveloped regions.
How it works:
Select nonprofit partners with expertise in community mobilization and construction management.
Train partners to design and build AguaClara plants.
Partners transfer ownership of the plants to communities by training local operators and help set up community
Water Boards for long term governance.
Trained partners can independently spread our open source technologies to the communities that need it most.
Feedback from the field, drives continued research at the AguaClara lab at Cornell University.
